UK gaming sales are higher than ever, defying the spending squeeze that has been witnessed by other industries. Figures show that gaming hit a record £5 billion last year, with this figure being attributed to an ever growing audience of gamers in the UK. These figures are up 12.4% from 2016.
Online and digital games have proven to be the most popular, although there was also a rise in the sale of boxed games. This includes games like Fifa 18, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. Some other top selling titles were:
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Star Wars Battlefront II
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Destiny 2
- Gran Turismo: Sport
This might come as something of a surprise considering the current economy, where inflation means that people have less disposable income. However, gaming has always been a popular hobby, and with more ways for consumers to access popular titles digitally and online, it shows the resilience of the games industry.
